Farm visit

Today we took a field trip out to Stillman’s Turkey Farm where they were having an open house. We wanted to see the place where our delicious Thanksgiving turkey was raised. It’s a cold, snowy New England day, so we bundled up in our long johns and winter gear. It was delightful to see the farm and hear some anecdotes about farm life – stories about the dogs and what they are good at, the guard horse, information about the sheep, how the costs of their inputs (hay and chicken feed) have risen by 500% in some cases, affected by the ethanol situation and other factors.

We came away with a dozen beautiful eggs from their Araucana chickens pictured here:

Most of the eggs are green!  So this is the source of green eggs and ham :-).
